Bearer of national First Class Golden Award for Scientific Achievements, Professor Waleed Al-Murrani, in a dynamic career spanning 40 years, held various lead positions within the Iraqi academic arena. On a national level, and at Iraq’s renowned University of Baghdad, Murrani served as head of veterinary public health department, professor of genetics and biostatistics and director of higher studies and scientific affairs. Regionally, Murrani served as a technical advisor to the director-general of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), part of the Arab League, at its headquarters in the Sudan. He supervised many diploma, MSc and PhD students and published as many as 100 publications, including books, studies and papers. Murrani retained his position as a professor of genetics, biostatistics and transgenesis at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology until July 2006. He moved to the UK and is now a visiting professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Plymouth, UK.
